ABOUT HOT HOSE 2021
Following an intense month of conversation and exploration, our Hot House residency of recent arts graduates from South Wales has come to an end. With artists selected from degree courses across South Wales, this month of curatorial support and funded practice provides graduates with a bridge into professional practice. Hot House consists of three weeks of mentoring from the Curatorial Team at MADE, external professional artist visits and access to studio space plus a bursary of £250 towards materials/artist fee. Hot House forms part of our Arts Council of Wales enabled annual programme.

Please join us on 11.9.21 for the 'Hot House’ exhibition opening day, showcasing the body of work produced by the 4 artists involved.
Made is pleased to announce our resident artists for this year are: Chauncé Lewis, Beth Smith, Eleanor Sykes, Yusun Won.
This year’s guest mentor: Caroline Sabin.

Special thanks to Caroline Sabin, this year's visiting artist mentor, whose contribution was both inspiring and practical at the same time.  We're also incredibly grateful to the Arts Council of Wales for their ongoing support of our gallery programme.

DESCRIPTION

Yusun Won's works cross the boundary between everyday object and art object. The ceramic vessels she creates, explore the separation between objects, in order to confound expectation and challenge sight and the notion of the object as a carrier;

it is as much to do with the empty space of the container, which reveals its thingness and is metaphorically a conveyor of existence, containing traces of being and its absence simultaneously. The grouping of objects and how they are presented have become a crucial part of the work. Yusun travelled from Korea to study and complete an MA in Ceramics at Cardiff Met University.
